2008 Lake Ontario Oswego Pro/Am Winners

Oswego Palladium Times

On the pro side Capt. Patrick Thayer of Redline Charters from Mexico, NY along with Whoopie the dog and the Peschler boys put it together for the win on the pro side. After sitting in 3rd after day 1 Red said we went out there and did what we know how to do, "Catch Brown Trout", he did have a few short copper sections that took a fair share of fish he claimed but the team held no secrets utilizing their normal go-to lures that each of use everyday. Team Redline was the only team to take a limit of 12 fish on each day. Red said it was a team effort and they had a simple game plan to target the BT's and let the chips fall where they may. The chips certainly fell in Red's favor, nice plan Red, Whoopie and Team, Job Well Done bud !........... 2nd place Team TK sat in 4th after day one targeting Kings, 9 fish each day and an attractor/fly program that is one of the best on Lake Ontario took them there along with some crucial decisions took the 2nd place spot, they did make a late day move on day 2 when they figured they could pound out a few quick Brown Trout. One advertantly of which measured exactly 18", a team decision was made to throw it back since if it was to fall short at the check-in it could cost the team dearly, if that fish was kept and it made it through the check-in it could have given Team TK and Kevin Davis a repeat victory after winning in 2007...............3rd place Team Hi Voltage was in that intimidating 1st place spot after day 1 and claimed a new secret spinnie we had made for them a few weeks ago along with the infamous hammer fly took most of the teams 1st day 12 fish limit, most of day one they were actually running 3 of this same rig while they were on a good school of feeding Kings and Lakers. On day 2 things changed as they most often do but the team held on for that 3rd place spot.

The A-TOM-MIK Big Fish award went to Team Royal Flush with a huge 28.82 lb. King taken on our product. Eric Marcinkowski claimed the big king took an A-TOM-MIK Fly with a Pro Troll attractor. Big Brown was taken by Team Candy weighing in at 13.14, big Steelhead taken by Reel Pleasure was 10.33 lbs.

All in all the fishing was very good and the lake yielded some outstanding catches but some very tough spells arose for many top anglers, our Kings showed their ability to dodge the skills of many very serious anglers throughout the weekend.

Am Division

On the am side Team Sparks sat in 3rd place after day 1 chasing Kings with 4 fish in the box at the end of the day, day 2 the team took 5 more fish for the win. At the awards ceremony Lester Zimmerman mentioned a great thanks to some other teams that helped them out in the past to hone their skills, Lester claimed Dave and Joe from Team Screamer had been a great help for their fly programs, he also thanked the Big Fin boys and Team Cold Steel for further support. Giving thanks is a great gesture but Team Sparks is a very tough group of guys who play to win. Lester and Larry are known for taking big Kings, just watch the LOC Board for proof, these guys are some serious anglers. Team Sparks also took several Kings over 20 lbs. during the Pro/Am alone with the 2nd largest King of the Pro/Am weighing 26.98 lbs. Dodger sat in 4th after day 1 with 4 fish and managed 5 more fish as well on day 2 to move up to that 2nd place spot. Friends of pro team Redline, Horsin Around was one of only 2 teams who took their limit of 6 fish on day 1 that put them in the 1st place position, day 2 they took 5 more but the weight of their fish could not overcome the heavier Kings, but they seemed very pleased with that 3rd place finish.

Copper loaded reels continue to grow in popularity, we have went through 250,000 ft. (781 lbs.) already this season. We are averaging over a dozen loaded reels a week, last week alone we sold 32 loaded reels. Many rec. anglers and Captains alike are purchasing numerous combo's after all the continued success stories. Team Screamer had a 4 hour stretch out of Wilson this past weekend on one day where their coppers were non-stop with repeated doubles on adult Kings, truly unreal !!!

Even though the Eastern Basin has been a slow go concerning Kings so far this season, the time ahead of us is sure to heat up at some point, in the big picture (many ports surrounding Lake Ontario and the influence of 2008 tourney angling to date) these attractor/fly combos have all played a role already, in no specific order these 7 combos have been good ones and will be a good bet to add to your arsenal.......

Fishing is challenging at present, Hat Trick and TK Charters are throwing all they have at them to turn some Kings and Browns daily, nothing super going on right now say's Kevin Davis and Tommy Poultorak. Seems our unfavorable easterly winds have pushed in the colder waters to slow things down a bit over the last few days. Ice water in tight has spread out our BT's and pushed the Kings we did have out to over 300 fow. Hat Trick and TK did manage some Kings from skippies, a 10 lber or two, and several adults to 22 lbs. Temps are around 65 to 70 down over 300 fow, same basic attractor/flies still favored are green on green and also mtn dew taped attractors with big fin B flies during brighter conditions. "Very challenging" were Kevin's exact words............

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

Fishing remains pretty good, the most popular areas seem to be 80 to 110 fow on the bottom if targeting Browns (to the east), Stinger and Dreamweaver spoons in mostly standard size or super slims or green attractors with green flies like the #23. If you plan to chase Kings try 200 to 300 fow and 90 to 120 ft down (to the west) using mostly attractor/flies. Dalmation and green dot spinnies with hammer flies and mtn dew taped spinnies with B flies (during sun). Riggers, wire divers and copper applications all having their time. Down speeds of 2.2 to 2.6 for the Kings. Find the thermocline and work your items above it and below it. Hat Trick took 2 Kings yesterday around 25 lbs. each along with other Kings in the am and had even a better trip for numbers on the pm trip. Just a matter of putting your time in, some days you'll get em some days you'll struggle. I am on the water today taking one last stab with my buddy Tommy G trying to take a big LOC King, will try to post our results later today. (: (:

Does this fish look like its worth $5500.00? The correct answer is "Yes it most certainly does" Congrats to Greg Amiel along with Big Al, Greg took this King 06/14/08 on our #23 stock green crinkle, a staple fly that has been pulling Kings since we put it in production back in 2002 ! Greg is no stranger to big fish and winning money with them, one great Canadian fisherman, Job Well Done, the King was just one of a triple header.

Fishing from Oswego can be very good, weather conditions will play a big role however on a daily basis right now. Brown Trout can still be abundant in 56 to 62 degree water around 70 to 110 ft east of the harbor mostly (near the bottom). Attractor/flies and spoons took many BT's this past weekend, yes attractor/flies, even accounting for larger size Browns on average than working spoon programs, black/silver colored spoons in standard size Stingers and super slim Dreamweavers have been very good when you catch the Browns feeding, attractor/fly colors in green/green or white/green. The Kings are biting one day and gone the next, but do not count out targeting most anglers favorite great lakes gamefish though cause some days are banner and are giving up many Kings with large adults also. Attractor/flies are accounting for a very high percentage of Kings but some spoons are taking Kings daily as well. Kings are being taken everywhere, east and west, and from 120 to 500 fow and from 70 to 160 ft down, the 180 to 300 fow range is a little better some days. Taking our Kings takes persistance, there are many variables that come into play, best bet is to constantly try new areas and such when targeting them. A few basics:
22" leaders (measured from the head of the fly to the connection on the attractor)
8' leaders on wire divers (between diver and attractor)
25' to 40' (30#) Fluorocarbon leaders off our 45# copper
25' stretch off rigger weights
2.4 to 2.7 downspeed
Keep your attractor combos in or near the temp. breaks, many days the warm side of the break will be key to taking bites, 42 to 54 degrees has been good.
Darker colors when it is darker out (green glow Pro Troll/#23 fly), and brighter when it is brighter (Mtn Dew Spinnie/B Fly combo or Chrome attractors/#97Mirage) this is one hot rig in the sun when the Kings are active, white attractors and hammer flies will almost always put a King in the box for you as well.

Saturday, July 5, 2008 8 am

Fishing is lighting up, things are good, best they have been all season, attractor/flies are seriously dominating the take of Kings, as of this am the LOC Derby has 18 registered Kings on flies, 10 of which out of a total of 21 Kings on the board are our product, tune in them fly programs they will work for you. Just as we predicted a few days ago the LOC Board has had many Kings entered, keep watching the board cause the Kings we have all been waiting for are here. We are heading out on vacation with the family (Grrrrr.... lol) and will not return until Wednesday to start pre-fish for the Oswego Pro/Am, no reports for a while anglers. Good luck to all, be safe out there, the fun is surely going to continue in the days ahead !!!!! .............. As the ring announcer say's in UFC: IT'S TIME !!!!!!.......................

Thursday, July 3, 2008 3 pm

Good day today, Tommy G and me aboard the Little Whip, 10 Kings off Oswego, update coming soon......

A good King bite today out of Oswego, we pointed the Little Whip to the west a bit and set up in 120 fow, bait and Kings all over on the inside, we had better luck this am chasing the Kings over deeper water (170 to 280') We targeted what few marks we saw down 80 to 100 ft, not much bait and no where near the marks as the shorter water but what we did mark had no problem taking our offerings. The picture did not matter all that much, rods were flying pretty well all day with our longest lull about 45 minutes. Rigger bites came at 80 to 100, wire diver bites came at 240 to 275, and a single 450 copper section held its own. Overcast today and not a single bite on a white attractor for us, today was a green day, green glow spin doctors and green glow chips trailed by green flies, we used various shades of green flies but as long as they were green they wanted to eat them. Our Kings today ranged from 2 skippers (a couple pounds) to a nice healthy fat 10 to 15 lbs., no big guys like we were looking for but battling these teenagers gets the blood moving and keeps your interest level high, they all seem big but the closer they get to the net they are just managing that 10 to 15 lb. range. Hey, we'll take em !!! Water was rough today out of the southwest with torrential downpours at times and poor visibility, very trying conditions with a nasty gusty wind at times!! Downspeed seemed crutial today, the west troll was very good and manageable but the easterly troll was tough keeping speed down to that magic 2.5 to 2.8 on the fishhawk

Tuesday, July 1, 2008 5 am

Fishing from Oswego is pretty good on some days, one day some captains are still managing a limit of BT's the next it's a struggle, just timing and conditions are dictating the catch. Either off the plant to the east or off the can to the west, that 25 to 40 ft range seems best. Stingers and Dreamweaver spoons worked in that 25 to 35 ft down range using a variety of spoons, NBK's, Diehards, Chicken Wings and Alewife colors always in the mix. The Kings are definitely around as well, whether you choose to point your boat to the east or west you will have a chance at fighting a King, average take per boat still very low but on any given day heading out and hooking up with several to as many as 8 or 10 Kings is very possible. I am very happy to say working flies seems best from the many anglers we have heard from, the combos listed above have all had their day, the hammer patterns and combos with green seem to be getting an edge as of lately. Depths of 120 to 300 fow also seem to be producing best, keep your baits down in that 90 to 130 ft down range, the 120 to 150 fow range is holding plenty of bait, at times it seems to be a bit tougher to get the Kings to bite in there and you'll need to move deeper, but with a break setting up now things should only get better. Will try to update a bit later in the day, Tommy G is meeting me at the dock this am and we are heading out to try our luck once again. Catch ya later..................

Update 1 pm

Good day today compared to the average take lately, we headed out on the Little Whip with big intentions at 6am, we didn't take a King over 16 lbs. but action was good, Tommy G and me aboard the Little Whip took many bites this am. We set up right out the front door in 120 fow, bait and marks on the screen instantly, we hit 270 fow and the first rod fired, a 450 copper section off an otter boat. This was our biggest King of the morning coming off a plain white spinnie and a Hammer fly. Turned around in 330 fow and headed back missing a diver bite (smaller fish we thought) than took a nice size laker about 10 lbs. worked our way back into that 140 fow range and worked a North/South troll throughout the next few hours. We did encounter a lull at one point not taking a bite for about 1 1/2 hours. But we stuck to our program and took 2 more lakers, a 5 lb. Brown, 2 smaller Kings and a shaker King. Missed another diver bite and one shot on another 450 copper, most seemed like smaller fish that we were missing, there sure are a lot of smaller Kings this year, but good for the future.
Several other boats had good days as well. Troy Creasy aboard The High Adventure worked the shorter waters early off the can and had some action in there including a 24" Atlantic, they moved out to over 200 fow and hooked up to a big guy pretty quick on a chartreuse spinnie/Hammer fly, they worked the remainder of their trip within the 120 to 200 fow range taking several other Kings, Troy had a "B" fly firing with a mtn dew spinnie later in the day he said accounted for 2 of his later fish.
TK Bob and Tommy with Kevin and Maurice aboard the TK had a late start but ventured out this am to do a little derby fishing, they weren't out long and had several shots with big guys come unglued. As TK Tommy and Kevin always do they stuck with it, regrouped and took the biggest King of all the boats out this am, watch the LOC Board for an update, they weren't out long as they wanted to run in and weigh the King. They had Spinnies and E-chips with chrome mostly and stock B Fly's accounting for 4 or 5 bites in the short time they were out.
Another 3 or 4 boats out today but no word on their success, today seemed to be one of them days where they just wanted to bite, the Hammer fly was good early and the B fly was real good around 10 to 11:30, best speed for us was 2.6 at the ball on the Fishhawk, a nice break was set up at 100 down, we had 5 degrees difference in 5 feet Many of todays fish between all of us were sitting at or near the break. What a nice day to be on the water !!! (:

Thursday, June 26, 2008 1pm

Phoned my good bud Little Whip Tommy G last night to see if he had this am free, Kevin Davis and Big Fin Gene had me all fired up the last week or so knowing there were at least a "few" Kings around Oswego, even a few "good ones" in the mix. Tommy said lets go. Never expected to take a King like we did today, but as I often say "Hey we'll take it".......

Started off the morning meeting Tommy G at the dock at 6am at the Charter Marina east side, Tommy was antsy and wanted to move pretty quick so off we go, we're nearing the lighthouse as I'm pulling fly rigs out of boxes, I stuck my nose out of the cock-pit for a minute and asked Tommy, "Where's the dog?"........... Shit !!!! left my best friend in the whole world back at the dock, back we go and there's "Hoss", with a puzzled look to his body staring in the air...... Picked up Hoss and we were off again !!!

Decided to set up in 170 fow right out the front door then headed NW, figured we run 4 attractor/flies and had our 4 rods in the water within a few minutes, 2 wire divers and 2 riggers. As the waiting game started my first comment to Tommy was "Man, this feels good to be out!" Tommy agreed with a smile. Wasn't long and the first rod fires in 210 fow, Tommy was all over the rod before I turned around, 6 lb. Laker down 125 ft. on a green E-chip/#23 fly. Put him back and put 4 more Kings in the box in the next 2 hours, not fast and furious but rods were moving and Tommy and myself were happy to be taking Kings. Wire divers only took one shot that we missed (wasn't big) out 330, other bites were from 110 to 125 down off the riggers, that same rig accounted for the Kings except for one other pink Pro Troll that I never saw in my life until this am, matched with a Tommy G pink/pearl fly. Had a slow spell for about 30 minutes and moved some stuff around including our one rod that had more action than the rest, we were watching temp.s pretty closely and Tommy noticed a slight change and asked where the riggers were, I had moved our better producing rigger down some as the sun was now out, Tommy hinted to move it back to 125 so I did, I turned around instantly and Tommy yells "Fish-On", I grabbed the rod and reeled for about 10 straight seconds as the King was rising fast, I thought just maybe we got bit off, finally found some tension and she started to screammmmmmm............325' ft out and right to the top, it was peeling drag as Tommy asked "Well, is it a good one?", I had a puzzled look on my face as every other King this am never came close to burning up this Okuma the way this fish did. The King then went straight down with over 300' on the counter, a better fight than I had been use to over the course of the season so far. I ended up getting the King back to about 60- 70 ft behind the boat when Tommy say's again "Ahhh, it's small, I seen it", I looked over my shoulder and said I hope your wrong bud, the tail looked quite large to me........ About 40 feet from the back of the boat and we both new it was a good one, 5 ft from the net and the heart started beating faster and faster, Tommy asked if we wanted neutral and I yelled "NET THIS FISH !!!" . . . . in the net finally ( Pheewww !!!) and onto the deck, a high 5 was in order. Took a few quick shots with the camera and put em on a cheap set of Berkley digitals, said 29.2, on our way to Larry's Oswego Salmon Shop to see Larry ASAP.........

We had 49 degrees down 125 ft over 250 to 300 fow, best down speed off the Fish hawk was 2.3 to 2.6, we worked from 175 to 330, not much bait around but marked about 10 hooks in the couple hours we were out, 5 or so which looked like better marks, Kings we took were 4lbs., 6lbs., 12lbs., 18lbs and the big guy that pulled the glass scales to over 29 lbs. A stock green Pro Troll and that #23, Kevin said that rig was a good one so I had every intention on putting it down, looks like Kevin was right. As Screamer Dave often claims, "It's good to have friends" Kevin is one of the crew that has kept me up to date lately to help all you out, out there in the internet world............ Thanks bud !!!! Even veteran Tommy G was showing some excitement through all this today, it takes a lot to get Tommy riled, he has been around the scene for a long time, Tommy has a lot of experience on the big lake, Nice Job Tommy, I am glad we could share this together !!!! Also had a quick reflection of fishing with the likes of the Cold Steel boys and Team Screamer, all these experiences are highlights of a lifetime, Whether this fish holds up in the Summer LOC Derby or not, today was a great experience and a rememberance of great friendships. It's looking like our Oswego Kings are making a showing fellow anglers, lets all hope they stick around for us.................

Tuesday, June 24, 2008 1pm

Hat Trick's pm trip yesterday yielded 7 Kings, 4 of which ranged from 16 to 24 lbs., we had just mentioned the chance to place a fish in the LOC at any given time and Kevin could have done just that if they had all been entered, but they weren't :( 500' copper bites, deep riggers to 120 ft and wires out to 325 all took fish, 2 Lakers as well, 10 bites in all, 7 on flies. 1 of the spoons taking a good King was the Stinger Stingray glow alewife, one attractor/fly mentioned was a green chip/#41 fly, the big guy came on Kevin's favorite smartfish/hammer combo. 125 to 175 fow just a touch to the west of the shute. 53 degrees down 120 ft, 56 down 100, a gradual drop in temp. from top to bottom, no breaks at all. Kevin was very happy, they even landed a double with 2 of the bigger Kings !! I had chatted with Tommy G around 1 pm and the Hat Trick was dockside, maybe waiting the weather out, Tommy said it was blowing some.

Monday, June 23, 2008 3pm

Few more Salmon around this weekend than we have heard of in a while, few more boats around as well. Most anglers sticking with the early am gig in the short water around the plant chasing BT's then moving out to search for Kings. Some real nice Browns taken up to 13 lbs. in the mix, some mornings are producing limits other mornings its a struggle to take 6 or 8, some anglers are even running 20 miles to fish the waters even further east of the plant, most with success. All the same items as we have been talking about for a while if your chasing the BT's. The anglers chasing the Kings are finding more action as the season progresses but the big issue remains to be the lack of a good temp. break. Kings have been taken from 50 fow on the bottom, out to over 300 fow down 160 ft. A variety of spoon colors mentioned and attractor/flies as well, seems to be about 50/50, haven't yet heard of any one item or presentation worth loading up on. Talk to 5 boats and get enough different answers to favor everyone's favorite offering, coppers from 400' to 600', wire divers from 275 to 350, riggers from 80 to 160 down. There does seem to be bait around in the shorter waters as well as out to 300 fow down from 70 to 120. Today Hat Trick had just taken a 13 lb. Laker on a smartfish/fly, Kevin said the blue/chrome smartfish with a Hammer fly has taken a few fish each day (Kings and Lakers) Kevin had 3 coppers out today, 400, 450 and 500, riggers from 100 to 140 and wire divers out 250 to 300. Lakers have actually been mentioned each day in many of the catches. I could mention many items that have taken fish over the weekend but seriously it is a conglomerate of everything in the spoon and attractor/fly category. Absolutely no rhyme or reason to any presentation or bait/color choice right now. There are fish to be taken daily, you just need to get out there and put your time in, you could have a slow going or could do very well and even take a "LOC Derby" placing fish at any given time, just ask Lester Zimmerman, Big Fin Gene or the famous "Billy V"......, put your time in and you'll have a chance.................

Congrats to the 2008 Summer Scotty winners, Yvan Charrios took the win, NICE JOB Yvan !!! A-TOM-MIK managed to have 4 teams in the top 6, congrats. !!

Fishing continues to be so-so, one day a few limits on the early morning BT's and the next it even gets tough for some of the seasoned anglers and captains. That easterly troll from Alcan to the plant and back seems to be the only show as of lately, even narrowing it down to early am hours most days. There do seem to be some Salmon around but very few quality fish, more of the 2 lbers than anything else, good for the future but we all want some King action soon. Interest is still high I gather from the requests we get about our reports but most anglers are just waiting it out. Taking gas prices into consideration more than ever before with that $4+ mark now common everywhere. Seems to be somewhat of a ghost town at times and on certain days on the lake.

If your looking for Browns get out early, work that water off Alcan to the plant from top to bottom, slightly favoring the 5 to 7 color cores more than anything else we hear, many spoons working, no certain dynamite pattern, just key timing, on the overcast days the bite lasts longer and can actually be good fishing. Get your items off the side of the boat 60 to 100 ft and run them back 100 to 150. Most days you will either need some weight (1/4 to 1/2 oz.) or the cores but several times already we heard of BT's coming right off the surface

If your looking for Kings try that 150 to 225 fow, from 60 to 120 down, I know that is a broad range but we hear of a King one day coming on a wire diver out 180 ft (down 60) and the next someone takes a King out 600 on the copper (down over 130 ft). This is what to expect without any thermocline set up. Lots of homogenized water without temp. breaks to target. Spoons and attractor flies, for fly combo's try white attractor/hammer patters, green attractors/green or green glow flies or mtn dew spinnies/B flies, Big Fin Gene's blue spinnie and the Hoover #1 fly has been good for him also. As of right now I wouldn't expect to set the world on fire, but we all know that can change on any given day. There are a lot of skippie Kings around, but the good ones can be that next copper bite you've been waiting for.

Word from across the lake brings proof of multiple Kings weighing 25 lbs, several 27 lbs, and even a couple 28 lbers., all within the last week alone These are honest Kings. I had an image sent to me today of a claimed 29 lber. This is all good news, I am one to firmly believe that "most" Kings make their way around the lake and that our Eastern Basin will see many of these Kings that have frequented other ports due to our Salmon River influence.

Oswego is up and down depending on skill levels mostly, some of the very experienced captains/anglers are still managing limits while some recs are finding it tough to move a single rod. Even some of the more experienced captains/anglers sure aren't finding any set programs to look forward to daily except the early morning BT gig that does seem to consistently at least offer up some fish. But it's tough going for the most part, just need to be very persistent if you want to head out of Oswego. Kevin off the Hat Trick took a limit of BT's this am fishing from Tommy G's point to the plant, a conglomerate of offerings from 4 to 8 color cores off mini boards, mono dipsys from 45' early to 90' later, riggers (slow) from 25 to 40 down (This was all in the am trip) All spoons today, some stingers in standard size (alewife white back and the wiggler) but mostly Dreamweaver super slims in dirty white boy, chicken wing, and green dolphin in high sun................Kevin also had a good slide diver bite this am down 60 back 50. A 4 man limit with other fish lost as well. For the pm trip they got into the skippy Kings over 60 to 80 fow off Tommy's point, they actually moved out of the area after only being able to take skippy Kings ( 2 lb. fish) several more BT's, and 2 rainbows finished out the pm trip, they worked that depth range down from 40 to 65, all spoons in the same patterns mentioned. Also talked with Hammer out of Bowmanville (Ontario Canada) just a bit ago 9pm, and he said things are super tough, he was even considering not fishing the Scotty coming up cause things were real slow, several boats out and a few steelhead each but not 1 King between everyone he talked to.

Saturday, June 14, 2008 9:30am

Not a bad day today so far at 9:30 am, just received a call from Tommy Germain who noted a few limits of BT's were taken already, Kevin and the Hat Trick were mentioned. Cold Steel had 10 early so I am sure they will finish with a limit, Tom is probably fighting the wheel from wanting to point north but keeping er in tight to satisfy the clientele, after a quick call from Tom he claimed standard size stingers in alewife patters were a good choice, same program as yesterday, lots of bait at the plant and BT's that want to bite. Tom also stated the bait pods were looking pretty awesome with hooks around each of them. Short coppers (to 150') & cores (to 7 colors), and riggers down 15 to 25 with your lures stretched back 60 ft. Stinger gator and chicken wing in standard sizes were mentioned after talking with Tommy G. The guys that got out late were picking but not as good as the early boats. Red from redline was out of Mexico, he mentioned a hot stinger (stingray) in perch pattern down 25 ft back 75 over 39 fow, he was doing well. Back to Tommy G. he fished the shorter waters early to the plant and managed some BT's and a few bass, then headed out to the depths to look for silvers along with the Sea Devil vessel, after Tommy talked to Gene he told us Gene just put a 19# King in the box (down 120 attractor/fly, not sure of the color) he moved his out riggers down to 110 and 120 and took a laker at that 120 mark on a green dot/hammer and missed one other shot from what he thought was a King on a wire diver out 240 on another green dot/glow hammer (that will get Tommy's 30# wire/diver rig to about 80 ft.) All this action was over 180 to 200 fow. Hey not bad after a few dreary reports from O-Town the last while.

Update: Gene said they are pulling lines, it's 10:30am just had another big boy hit the deck off a long copper, watch the LOC board for an update, Gene says its a good one and they were going to head in anyway.... Update: fish came off a 600' section (down about 132') Hoover fly/blue spinnie. Nice Job Gene and crew off the Sea Devil, presently 2nd place in the LOC @ 23.13

Noon-Just received a call from Ontario canada, someone heard a rumor there was a 27# King taken by Greg Amiel ( fishing4tails) for the carry-over $500/Day derby (should be worth over $5000.00) King was taken on a #23 (A-TOM-MIK stock green crinkle) Greg also took a 28 lber on our product, Way To Go Greg........

4pm- In response to an anonymous E Mail after today's report: Concerning our line of trolling flies, after 6 years producing our line of flies we feel pretty confident we have an "edge" over the pack. After "called out" by an angler who follows "another" line of flies in respect to, and I quote "A good showing from our product for a few years now", this angler asked if I felt there was any extra advantage to running our flies vs. the many competitors. The angler noted he was well aware of my beliefs on certain issues pertaining to the emmitance(?) of energies or noises created from E-Chips, Shark weights and as of lately from our rattles. (Knowing that I am not one to buy into (and I quote again "The many mysterical theories" concerning such)) I gave a rather long response to the perplexed angler trying to justify my thoughts without divulging my true feelings of why our A-TOM-MIK product has held its own for a few years now while up against many other quality products on the market. Without giving up this info to anyone I just wanted to mention as strongly as I disagree with these many theories I also strongly feel we do have an edge at the present time. As the A-TOM-MIK name is known in the angling world around Lake Ontario please feel confident from a very skeptical angler in myself that I firmly believe our product does hold certain keys in its manufacture to gain that minimal edge needed to stay strong in this competitive market. Sort of like odds from a casino, the odds may only favor the house by a small percentage, but over the long-haul the house always wins. (ex. That is why a competitor product to A-TOM-MIK will at times take that top spot and edge us out, but over the long haul I feel we will edge out the competition, I guess time will tell on that) I just felt the need to express my feelings in response to this E Mail, one of which nature I have never received before. Please know as a manufacturer I do not take our present "positive following" for granted, we are here now but I am well aware in this trendy business I could be gone tomorrow, or shortly thereafter. I often simply "play my cards" and hope for the best. Obviously this anonymous E Mailer will read this: I still wish you well on the big lake whoever you are.................. Tom (:

Friday, June 13, 2008 6pm

Fishing was better today for some and still a struggle for others, about a dozen boats east of the harbor stretched to the plant. BT's were the targeted species obviously, 2 and 3 year olds in the mix from 20 to 50 fow, up higher early and deeper shortly after the brightness showed up. All we heard for baits were various spoons in mostly standard size stingers and some super slim dreamweavers. Greens/silvers and black/silvers while it was bright and white backs and glows early. Kevin off the Hat Trick said the best presentations were shorter copper sections to 100' and cores from 3 to 7 colors off boards. Bait was showing up here and there and where there was bait early there were BT's. Hat Trick took a 4 man limit. A better report than the last few days for sure.

Transition period: Our Eastern Basin does not hold any dominant thermo bars as of yet, many times you will here the claim we need wind from the west, or the claim that easterly winds fill our basin with colder waters. These time periods are often all too vital for our local Oswego anglers as well as many other anglers around the great lakes. During our current transition we are in presently it leaves us waiting for thermo bars to set-up. Our close to shore fishery that is targeted from spring to early summer sort of "dries up" and the favorable conditions of the shallower spring waters disperse and the water gets too warm and does not hold the needed conditions to favor our fish. At this time (now) the fish spread out, not holding in any one area to be targeted with much success, even though boat traffic is slow if you talk to the few anglers that are out and about you will find different info from just about everyone. Some will mark fish down to over 200 feet deep over 500 fow, while someone else just took a King on the surface in 80 fow, the concentration of fish needed will come together as the conditions "set-up" and become favorable again. At times longer periods of stale hot calm weather will trigger this desired action. Once the thermo-bars are in place we can rest-assure we will be able to target our highly prized King Salmon at and near the thermocline. Once this happens be sure to spread your presentations from a few feet below to a few feet above this temp. break. On any given day in the near future we can expect to be pulling Kings from the warmer water just above the colder waters where the Kings like to feed.

Monday, June 09, 2008 3pm

Tough fishing, this isn't the type report I like to offer, sort of reminds me how things were in June through the late 80's and into the 90's. The Oswego charters are managing some BT's in early hours, but man is it slow, a few smaller kings if you choose to put much time in. Not much else to offer, things are certainly not totally stagnant and as always things can change after just a few days, but for now if you choose to come to O-Town bring your "Musky" patience along........

Thursday, June 05, 2008 3pm

Fishing remains slow out of Oswego, Brown Trout being taken but no great numbers, early hours are a bit better but not like what we would expect. Anglers are working waters mostly to the east as far as the plant, from the harbor and in-between these areas just aren't producing what we would like to see due to (probably) conditions water/temps. Keep caution in mind when you hook our stocker Browns that are around in numbers in and around the harbor. Sticks off the surface (mostly smithwicks and some rapalas in natural colors and some chartreuse early) and spoons mostly in standard Stinger and Dreaweaver super slim size. The spoons are being ran closer to bottom as the day progresses, shorter cores off to the side off big boards and some off smaller boards all having action. Oswego captains and rec anglers are just waiting for some sort of temp. breaks to set-up or warmer waters or for bait to move in to draw the numbers of fish they are looking for (due to somewhat colder waters than normal). A few Kings still are being taken but very very slow targeting them, all incidentals from what we have heard, Fishin Magician Ryan W. stopped by today and mentioned 8 bites while Salmon fishing out of Sodus in 70 to 120 fow. He was running a mix of flies and spoons. No further reports till after Monday the 9th, heading to the "Oak" for part 2 of the Pro/Am Orleans County, wish us well as fishing will prove tough compared to Wilson last weekend. See you in a few days ...................

Monday, June 02, 2008

Only got a quick run-down of the King fishing over the weekend, talked to Big Fin Gene on our ride home last night and he stated King fishing was tough, they managed 2 on Saturday and never moved a rod on Sunday, he said our water was still very homogenized with no temp. breaks anywhere, Gene and the Sea Devil vessel worked waters from in tight all the way out to over 300, only slight water temp. change was down 160 ft over 300 fow. Gene makes me realize why they are some of the great anglers of today, his last comment stated, "Tom, don't worry bud we'll get em' next time". On a side note much of the same tactics Gene defines each weekend here out of Oswego were "worked" well at the other end of the lake to place many A-TOM-MIK teams on top of the score-boards. Gene's persistence will pay of as he stated, but Oswego is a tough place right now to pull "consistent" Kings. Only heard a few notes of the BT fishing the last few days, some days were good and others were tough due to the winds.

Tuesday, May 27, 2008 Noon

Off to Niagara to fish the 1st Pro/Am, best of luck to everybody............

Sunday, May 25, 2008 11am

Just had a talk with Gerry Bresadola on the Dixie Dandy at 11 am, Gerry had a couple limit days on the Brown Trout fishing from 4-Mile (The Point off Tommy G's house) and to the east of there as well. He said lead-cores, shallow riggers (w/ orange and slvr spoon) and a few smithwicks in slvr/black were all taking some fish. The consensus was they weren't jumping in the boat but they were there for the taking if you put your time in, Gerry seemed happy with his catches the past few days. He noted Hat Trick and TK also had some good days with the same kind of catches in the same areas.
Sea Devil Brian and Big Fin Gene chased the Kings as norm this weekend, they faired well with a few Kings and Steelhead each day and a few "Chickens" to boot....... They worked waters to 300 ft an probed depths to 140 ft down, Gene noted very homogenized waters with temps of 47 all the way out to 300 fow and 140 down. A mix of items taking fish, green/green for attractor flies, Sweet Pea Glow and #41 were mentioned. Some spoons as well, Gene was still hopeful and confident he would put more Kings in the boat.
Redline Charters out of Mexico was still taking BT's even further to the east, not as stellar as last weekend but Red could catch fish in a mud puddle so he had action.
Cold Steel also found success in the tighter waters to the east of Oswego, BT's to work on much of the same kinds of spreads as the other Oswego boys, they did manage a nice 20+ lb. King in the shorter water to spark the interest of the up-coming Pro/Am's, where the main targets for us will be S.H.A.R.K.S....................... Oh yeah ~!!!!!~ A pretty good weekend for all with slow to moderate boat traffic and most anglers "taking" fish to warm the clientele with stories to go home with !!!
Image of that shark coming soon, C'mon Andy !!! Get me that pic brother !!!!!!!!!

Friday, May 23, 2008 Noon

Heard the BT fishing today was outstanding with limits from the few boats that were out, most fishing to the east of Oswego, this was second hand info and 1 boat mentioned with a limit was TK Charters.

Thursday, May 22, 2008 3pm

No reports out of O-Town we have not talked to a sole from here, reports may be limited until after the first 2 Pro/Am's a little on the busy side........

Tuesday, May 20, 2008 3pm

Fishing was tough today for most, after the heavy blow things were riled up pretty good, BT's were taken but nobody we talked to ventured off shore from Oswego, after a day or more of settling things may fire up.

Dear A-TOM-MIK Flies: I am sending you a Picture of the 4th place Salmon that was caught on your fly in the fall derby the Crinkle Green fly caught about 18 Large kings before it was past the point of being useable for sure…I still have it to hang in the mouth of the fish when it is finished being mounted. .Feel free to post in on your site if you desire…That same color grabbed me the first place fish in the fall derby in 2005 so needless to say it is the first fly to hit the water on most outings, I hope it helps us during the upcoming Pro-Am too. . Thanks…..Gary Plaza

Monday, May 19, 2008 5pm

Lots of wind today, gusts to 30 mph and a steady 20+ mph blow from the west, several charters did venture out for a short time and worked the harbor, many stocker BT's 7" to 9" long and sheepshead were the results. Most were back in within 2 hours.......

Sunday, May 18, 2008 11am

More Kings taken off Oswego today, Tommy Germains' Little Whip Charters had 3 Kings in the box at 9 am, one over 20 lbs. along with several other 2 years olds. One other swing and a miss which looked like another King attack as well as a rainbow in the mix, Tommy said the popular green-dot spinnie from last season and a hammer fly out 175 on a wire diver took several of the bites and a white E Chip/TG fly combo also took one of the smaller Kings. 100 to 150 fow a touch to the west was holding some bait and occasional King marks, I grabbed the copper set-ups off Tommy's boat last time to re-tie some knots so he couldn't run the coppers, he wasn't too happy with me, sorry bud, no rigger bites as of 9 am for the Little Whip. Big Fin Gene, Brian and the Sea Devil had action as well with 6 Kings in the mix early, same items as yesterday and the coppers working as well, one notable mention Gene said was the new Hoover #1 fly, Gene say's its a great fly taking bites (Thanks to staffer Geoff Hoover from Ontario Canada for this pattern), looks like its starting out the season as a winner !! Some deeper Kings were taken today off the Sea Devil boat via copper some 70+ ft down !!! Nice going guys, maybe the start of our Oswego Kings to stay ????? BT action up and down, some doing very well others struggling to get bites, Redline Charters out of Mexico has been doing very well on the BT's, he had some very happy clientele this weekend, Red said the more natural colored Stinger spoons off 3 and 5 colors of lead inside 50 fow were doing the job. Again some anglers are doing limits and others are struggling and most in-between, it's a day to day, hit or miss story we are being told. All and all a pretty good weekend in this section of the Eastern Basin........and.......finally Kings on flies, that's what we were looking for,,, Amen !!!!!!!

Kings on flies out of Oswego........

Good day today out of Oswego, Tom and Andy off the Cold Steel were working the inside waters to the east and maintained a BT pick throughout the morning, 10 to 15 fow working the top 5 to 7 ft, one short rigger set at 4 feet down with a Michigan Stinger orange crush was a very good spoon, blk and slvr smithwicks off the boards with one small split shot back 100 were also firing. Tom stated a good mix of fresh 2 year olds and also some 3 years olds to 8 lbs. They were going to finish up their trip working their way off shore a bit and hooked up immediately to a big guy in 80 fow. The Sea Devil boat with Big Fin Gene, Brian Castle and crew had a very good day working the deeper waters all morning, Kings were taken in the water column Gene and Brian like to work the most ("attractor/fly range") 55 to 65 ft down over 80 to 100 fow right out front and also a short ways to the west treated them well. The first rods to fire were a double on big guys 19 & 20 lbs. A blue glow spinnie and the new Hoover #1 fly along with a #41 green glow fly and stock green E-chip attractor, these same rigs fired more than once throughout the morning. It was a fly bite today in this area, actually the first of the year on our record out of Oswego, other Kings were also taking on our #23 green crinkle/green E Chip. Gene had Kings to take back home to PA, nice day today and he was all fired up fishing in his element "Taking Kings on flies". Small pods of bait around for Cold Steel and Sea Devil today as well........ MMMMMMMM the fruits of good ole "Lady O", C'mon mother nature please keep our conditions favorable, we have waited long enough to start taking consistent Kings on flies !!!!!!!

Friday, May 16, 2008 3:30 pm

Not sure why but heard fishing today was very slow, no solid reports from anyone, heard of a few boats off the plant early but no word on how they did.

Thursday, May 15, 2008 3:30 pm

A good day today with mixed bags of Kings, BT's, Coho's and a few Steelhead, even 1 Lake Trout taken off the top near the shoreline. All Charters taking fish after our west winds blessed us with some warmer surface waters. The bait has been packed in tight in the previous week from certain areas, the harbor and to the east good numbers of adult alewives are stirring. Today was a good day for taking Kings in the top 30 ft, early it was mostly spoons in green/silver or green glow, the Michigan Stinger Stingray chicken wing was a hot spoon after morning was over. The bait is large but the Kings are taking standard size spoons real good as well as 28 size. Short copper sections (100' and 150'), cores of 5 to 8 colors, riggers from 5 to 30 ft with 100' leads and offerings off boards (100 ft back) each having success at times. Today was a good day and quite a few captains capitalized on the favorable conditions..........

Rattles, Rattles, Rattles.............One of many Kings hooked 05/13/08 out of Ontario Canada, Norm and Jay Ciupak had a banner day with several Kings over 20, our new Crazy Bitch fly doing some damage today !!

Wednesday, May 14, 2008 Noon

Quite a few boats had a good day out of Oswego to the east and west, TK Charters, Dixie Dandy and Fish-On Mike all found BT's along the shoreline, some ran as far as the plant to the east but other areas were also producing. Same programs as previously mentioned with sticks off boards and 28 and smaller size spoons of shallow riggers. Natural patterns working well, blk/slvrs, grn/slvrs, etc. Getting out early right now is key, sleeping in and then chasing the BT's is not a good combination, the steady action of the early hours is slowed drastically to just a pick once the bright skies show up. TK did the BT am gig then slid offshore and managed some rainbows in the top 30 ft to finish off the am charter. Hat Trick found success in the pm yesterday with a great looking picture to work to the west and willing targets making for a great pm charter (in the mix were 5 rainbows in the 10 lb. class) . Today Jimmy and Kevin (images from their am trip today below) went straight back to what they were working last evening, the picture did dry up some with no where near the amount of targets but none the less the action was well worth the thought of just sticking to the deeper water troll (60 to 90 fow). A couple Kings to 14 lbs. landed (lost a nice 19-20# King at the back of the boat, had the fish in the net then the basket came loose of the handle and splash, OUCH!) also in the mix were more rainbows and Coho's.

Kevin's program is a conglomerate of flies down deeper (to 60 ft), spoons off mid riggers (20 to 50 ft) and small red dodgers and our new Coho flies covering the top lines down to 20 ft., these ran off riggers, short coppers and cores. The best action has been mixed between the spoons and smaller dodgers, the standard flies down deep have not been super successful as of yet. Spoon variety has been mixed, glow greens early then more orange's later, standard size stingers, smaller hi-tech's (orange and silver). The best small dodgers are red with the favorite Coho flies being greens or chartreuse and also blue/green doing some fish. Just need to stay versatile as always and spread your eggs out !!!!

A note on what it takes to become a successful captain/mate in some trying times of chasing our elusive great lakes fish. Our LO fishery is truly awesome in comparison to most, but due to conditions and such things do get tough and we have to weather the storm so to say and get through it. There are many great captains out there today paving the ways for the greener up and coming anglers. Each port will always have their Hat Trick or Fish Doctor type charters, the full time guys grinding out a living and making the best of what we have to work with during harder fishing. Thanks to Kevin for running home to send us these images between trips today, he has been a wealth of info !! I wish I could share with you the amount of a tip he received today, the clientele really appreciated the extra effort Kevin put into the spread of lures, the extra effort is a must right now to make this kind of action happen. Over the course of a season many anglers will run themselves pretty raged keeping up with it all, Kevin has been here at my home late, twice in the last 2 nights just gearing up with more reels and any and every bit of newer tackle he can to make things happen while on the water. It takes just this to become a recognized name in one of the toughest of businesses. I was chatting with "Thrillseeker" Vince yesterday and I brought up the name Kevin Davis, Vince says, "Man, I hear an awful lot of that name!". Point being it takes an extra effort to reach the top dogs in this business, when that extra effort is a continual thing it pops out to many................. Ok, I'm done with the rant, just showing my respect to those who give that extra effort !!! And they just so happen to make our reports come to life as well...........

One day not the best, the next day looking better, Kevin Davis and Jimmy Staves took the Hat Trick for a 5 or so mile ride to the west and found some surface action in 50 to 90 fow. Just a mild wind from the west late yesterday warmed the waters enough to yield a small Atlantic, a Coho, some very nice rainbows, and the preferred targets some Kings in the 10 to 14 lb. class. Pretty much a scouting mission and working the top 30 ft. with big boards and shorter copper sections as well as shallow riggers proved successful. A few half cores also took some fish, no particular items setting the world on fire, Kevin just stated spoons with red/orange in them, some of the new coho flies we now produce with 6" red attractors and covering some area. We also heard the BT fishing was a bit better today for the shoreline huggers doing the BT thing to the East !!

Monday, May 12, 2008

Tough fishing for many anglers over the weekend out of Oswego, winds of easterly direction are not favorable to our Eastern Basin. Kevin Davis off the Hat Trick says we need a west wind even a hard west blow and we need it bad !!! Cold waters pushed into Oswego disperse our fish in a hurry, whether targeting spring BT's or fall Kings, east winds are not good for our anglers !!! There were fish taken all weekend but working for them is a must, and a tough bit compared to the great seasons we have been blessed with in the last few years. A few anglers off Fair Haven have been finding Kings in the 40 to 70 fow range working the top 30 ft with mostly spoons, off Oswego the Sea Devil / Big Fin vessel found 5 Kings and a few steelhead this weekend from skippers to 18 lbs. claimed Gene, working the same type program, top 30 ft mostly spoons and a few sticks off boards. West of the harbor has been the area worked by the anglers we talked to taking the Kings, in the Nunzi's to 9 mile creek area.

Brown Trout fishing remains steady, most action taking place east of the harbor but to the west off 3 mile has its times. After the easterly winds up until Tuesday we have had colder waters packed into our Oswego area keeping surface water temps around 42 outside the influence of the Oswego River or bank waters. A few King trips including one by Little Whip and myself turned up no Kings, but they are around I assure you as a few more incidentals have been taken lately. Same program on the BT's as previous posts, most days yielding a mix of 2 and 3 years olds averaging 2 to 8 lbs. cover lots of water and concentrate on the stronger mud lines or discharge from creek mouths, once you find where they are holding it gets fun, the high sun has been a deterrent so get out there early in these areas of warmer waters, a few degrees will mean a lot.

Fishing over the weekend out of Oswego was a bit tough for some and stellar for others, but BT's remained being taken (just a few Salmon). After a lengthy chat with Brian Castle from the Sea Devil excursions it has been brought to my attention that a serious King targeting program out of Oswego is not worthy of an extended amount of time as of yet (if your expecting good numbers). There are some Kings being taken but as of now be ready to put your time in if you choose to target Kings in the deep water. Big Fin Gene, Sea Devil and friends managed BT's from west of the green can to east as far as the plant. As shallow as the shoreline to 70 fow fish were taken, one incidental King approx. 20 lbs. made its way right to the back of the boat until the Pro Big Fin himself knocked it off with the net (even the pro's can make mistakes). As stated just an incidental taken on a small stinger spoon. Standard size stingers, rapala's and Smithwicks were best, stingers in alewife, NBK, and more of the natural painted schemes are working best.f The few boats that we heard of targeting Kings from Fair Haven to Mexico waters did manage some, sticking with an upper water column program (surface to 40 ft) is the best bet. Spoons stretched back to 100 ft. off riggers, boards with short sections of copper 100 to 200 ft., cores up to 10 colors or shallow divers of lighter wires all "might" work. According to the Pro's a hard long NW erl'y blow might be what it takes to pack us in with some "SHARKS" (Just talked with Kevin Davis while he was doubled up on BT's to the East on the edge of the stained waters, 2 pm)

Just a short note on our venture to the west with the "Screamer" boat. Fishing was real good with many boats landing many Kings, Coho's and some Steelhead and Lakers in the mix. Anglers running complete spoon programs or complete fly programs were doing best out of the boats I talked to. We worked waters from Port Dalhousie (Canadian Waters) to the can (American) from 80 to 220 fow and that area was yielding Coho's and Steelies up top mostly (surface to 50 down), while the deeper water columns (60 to 120) were holding mostly Kings. Such a great fishery to be a part of on that western end. We ran 98% attractor/flies (we only fished from 60 feet down and deeper) and put over 25 Kings in the boat over 2 days in 16 hours of fishing, ranging from 8 to 19.11 lbs. Our best 2 flies were our B-Fly original and B-Fly Glow with mountain dew attractors & leads of 19" to 24" with speeds from 3.2 GPS to 2.4 at the ball. We had 2 400' copper sections that were so hot they consistantly went off for a few hours, thanks to team Sparks for that tip, upon their prompt we lengthed ours out to 400' and it started going off instantly !!
Thanks to Screamer Dave and Joe for putting on the clinic and for the hospitality from Lester off the Zip-n Zim and Team Sparks, all great guys. Another thank you to Screamer, Lester, Team Sparks and War Ship for their $100.00 donation to sponsor the Oswego Net Pen Project! Great gesture men

Today's fishing was sporadic at best out of Oswego, all boats that went out were taking Browns but no one setting the world on fire. Mike Conroy on the Proteus did a few in and around the harbor, Eddie Taylor took some more to the East and the TK boys worked even further easterly waters to Alcan. 2 and 3 years olds all in the mix, same gig with spoons off short riggers back 100' to 150' and sticks (mostly Smithwicks) off boards. Today was a day where you just needed to put your time in and keep things moving around to keep the BT's coming. Only one King weighed in so far as of 3 pm in the Spring LOC, surprising no Browns yet with the many catches of larger than normal Browns in the last week, hmmm. No reports till Monday as I am heading down west to Wilson to fish the LOC with Screamer, we will be looking for Kings (: (: (: Good luck to everyone this weekend, its looking like it will be wet out there.

Kevin Davis and TK Tommy are on a pm trip together off the TK at 6 pm, Kevin said it is cold out there with a brisk NE wind just a howling. The BT's just keep biting however they said, with the variations in wind throughout the day, starting South and working their way to the present NE kept things changing all day. TK's morning trip yielded a nice 27" Atlantic about 8 to 9 lbs. (off the can, 25 fow, West of port), a fresh run of 2 year old BT's were taken today, Kevin said they must have moved in not that long ago due to them being very clean fish with no marks on them what so ever. (In comparison to the heavier 3 year olds of the previous days) Today's ventures worked areas from Alcan to the east to 3 Mile creek to the west, fish were taken at every location. Kevin noted how important it was to fish the warmer waters from the Oswego river plumb in coordination to the wind directions. Smithwicks off the boards and spoons off shallow riggers, rosemary's baby standard stinger was a good spoon today.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow who will be fishing the first day of the 2008 Spring LOC Derby

Just talked with Tommy from TK Charters who was on his way home after his am trip, he said it was getting quite bumpy today. NW winds and 3' to 5' waves made things challenging, they still managed to put Browns up to 8 lbs. in the box for their clients. West of port again in 10 fow, spoons with chartreuse (mainly reg. stingers) and sticks off the boards were what the BT's wanted today. TK got a late start and couldn't put in a 100% effort due to conditions but still managed to do some fish. Tommy made it a point to say the Clown Smithwick has been a good bait.

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

A 2' to 3' chop this am out of the West brought very good BT fishing to the West of port. There was a good break in surface temp. that went from 44 to 48 degrees in 10 fow. On the break is where the action was, silver/blck and silver/gold Smithwicks off the boards were doing the trick. BT's up to 9 lbs., were taken.

Monday, April 28, 2008

Some nice Brown Trout up to 14 lbs. are being taken daily from the shoreline to 100 fow East and West of port. Oswego is also seeing some Coho's, Rainbow's and a few King's, everything is in the upper water column from the surface to 40 ft down. More Kings should be showing up as the bait moves in. Spoons in 28 or Stingray size have been working best with Smithwicks and other stick baits also taking their share.
