A-TOM-MIK will be trying to raise $1000.00 for the Oswego Net Pen project, we will be selling squares (x 100) for $10.00 each (NFL type pool). Numbers will be picked & placed on the board at the Oswego Pro/Am event in July. Squares will also be sold at the Pro/Am (look for the display on a table) unless we happen to sell each of the squares here first. Please be sure to let us know which square(s) you want. Example A9 or D7, if you do not choose a square we will choose one for you, we will keep an updated board with names for you to see here.

The "Net Pen Projects" are a vital addition to many stocking programs which stock Salmon and Trout. Net pens are in operation throughout the great lakes, in the last so many years our Lake Ontario fishery has been enhanced greatly due to these pens. Oswego has had a vibrant pen rearing in place for quite some time now with banner runs of King Salmon. A Spring King fishery in 2003', 04', 05', and 06', were received well from the many anglers who cashed in on a fishery our Eastern Basin angers were not use to in the past. Again in the fall our returns of King Salmon have been great when mother nature shines on water conditions.

The net pens are vital for a few reasons, to acclimate our reared fish to the conditions in a protected environment helps, keeping the stockers free of predators as long as possible is a great deal, cormorants have feasted heavily on our stockers for many years prior to rearing. Often our fish are now towed to safer areas to be released. One other huge benefit of our reared fish is the smolting process that takes place from our fingerling Chinook Salmon, our baby Kings will actually "smolt" or imprint our Oswego waters, thus leading to their return upon maturing. This is a port favored idealism and a reason Oswego anglers need to protect our net pen projects that are in place at present. With the migrating Kings that circle our Lake Ontario many anglers will reap the benefits of each pen project in place, to get that return of Kings however is an added bonus to the donated work that goes into keeping these projects alive and running.
